Atomos Shogun firmware update and future release schedule

Atomos Shogun shipped just before Christmas and has been a huge success with extremely positive feedback being received from users across the globe. Being such a major new release from Atomos some software features have been staged and will be included through firmware updates over the coming months, as announced at IBC last year. However it is with regret that a couple of features expected to be implemented in the product on release have been subject to a delay. Please find below an updated outline schedule for forth-coming releases as follows;

Delayed Features

• Playback - Unfortunately Atomos have experienced some difficult issues, which are being solved now. They estimate that firmware inclusive of in-device playback be available by the end of January. It could be sooner if solving the remaining problems goes well. Atomos apologise once again for the delay and appreciate the patience of users.

• Avid DNxHD - The option to record in the DNxHD codec is scheduled to be available mid-February.

Forth-coming Features

• 3D Look-up Table (LUT) support - Expected implementation in March 2015.

• RAW Recording (CinemaDNG) - Due to the delays in releasing playback and DNxHD, Cinema DNG is also expected to be delayed until March. However we can let you know that the following RAW support is planned to be implemented: Sony FS-RAW (FS700, FS7), Canon C500, Arri RAW, and Panasonic V-RAW.

Known Issues (Atomos to resolve in update):

• Rolling timecode trigger does not work at 1080p50/60.

• RED & C500 SDI 1080p50/60 bug found.

Known Issues (3rd party):

• Transcend media only works if inserted with unit already turned on.

• OCZ media not recommended.

• Blackmagic Design 6G-SDI products are not compatible in UHD4Kp60. Shogun is compliant with the current SMPTE 6G-SDI standard, the Hyperdeck Studio tested was not compliant. Until BMD update to the current SMPTE provisional 6G standard ST 2081-1:201x (Version 4, 2014-06-04) on their 6G products, Shogun will not work with these devices.
